Or: A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people.
Tuesday was Day 30 of lockdown / home office and I’m not sure I will ever catch up but let’s see …
While politics is investing billions to save our heavy industries (in Germany that’s most and for all the automotive industry of course) there is not so mich talk about cultural things. I now heard about a little fond, like 5 million to save the scene. Really? While we’re investing, I think 1.300 billion so save our industry, art and stuff get 5 million? I’m pretty sure, that’s not all but it brought a thought to my philistine mind: how would a society without any cultural institutions – whatever that might be for you – look like? What if we save all of the great industry, but we lose all of the artistic achievements? What would it do to us? The cliche about Germans is that they don’t do anything except working and that they don’t have any humour. I don’t think that’s true, but maybe we’re not the most artistic folks around the globe. But what would happen if all of that would be gone? How will a society that lost every creative outlet, everything besides work look like? Not a nice thought I think.
Boris Palmer is a senior major and a member of the green party, even though no one really knows why. Mister Palmer is konservative at best. He now caused some turmoil as he was complaining in an interview that we at the moment treating old folk which might die a few months later any way due to naturals. Well, yes thats always an option but what does he said really? That we should carefully chose whom to treat, whom to safe in the end and who should just die. But quietly please. That’s totalitarianism actually. Doctors have to make such tough calls in war times, in the light of overwhelming crisis where just not everyone can be saved due to limited resources. And I’m very much aware, that in certain countries people have been forced to make such calls. That’s exactly what we’re talking about, we don’t want such circumstances, this is why me must do our best to keep our health system stable which is why we need to slow down the virus, keep the reproduction rate low. I don’t really care about Mister Palmer, he is an idiot which likes to provoke again and again. Most likely because he never really became a big shot in politics and therefore has the urge to feel important sometimes by speaking the unspeakable. No, it’s more about his ideas. You know, I don’t really like old people. I also don’t really like kids, but I want both to be safe and I don’t want to live in a society where we value the one more than the other. I want a most diverse and colourful society, this includes of course young and old.
Nothing to report actually. System seems to work. Haven’t heard about severe cases of cabin fever yet. Or divorces. Or unplanned pregnancies. People seem to act kinda civil actually.
30 days more or less in isolation and I haven’t started a Corona Podcasts yet – and no one says thank you! People can be so ungrateful. I want to start a podcast (again) since years, but never really found the energy – and no, of course not about Corona. I already have a concept, title and everything but I just can’t get it done. I guess if I won’t in lockdown, I will never do …
Anyhow, this was a good day. Felt quite productive after the last days and weeks had been a bit awkward.
